About Soft Terrain

We paint animals with a bit too much personality.

Soft Terrain started because good animal art was either stiff and overly formal, or cheap and a bit naff. We wanted something in between — proper oil-painted character studies that make you laugh: mid-yawn, stealing a wine bottle, wearing a hat they absolutely did not consent to.

Every piece is hand-prompted and refined in-house until it feels right — not just accurate, but funny in the right way. Warm sage backgrounds, thick painterly brushwork, and just enough personality that people stop scrolling.

How we work

Nothing goes live until it earns its place. We test dozens of variations of a single design before one makes the cut — right expression, right colouring, right amount of chaos. If it doesn't make us laugh or want it on our own wall, it doesn't get listed.

We print across the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and Ireland, fulfilling locally wherever possible so your print arrives quickly and in proper condition.

It's just us — designing, testing, listening to what actually gets people to hit buy, and slowly growing the collection one good character at a time.
